#BloggerCLUE: Beat the Heat Negroni’s

The Blogger C.L.U.E. Society this months is all about beating the heat, something we desperately try to do in the desert. I was assigned Lora of Cake Duchess. Lora is an exceptional baker and cake decorator (two skills I envy – I think I flunked the Wilton basic cake decorating class) and she has a flair for the Italian lifestyle. I knew right away when I saw that she featured Italian dishes that I would be searching out a cocktail that featured Campari. Campari is a liqueur that is slightly bitter with orange notes and is known for stimulating the appetite.  I was not disappointed and found a cocktail recipe for Campari Maitre d’ which Lorna refers to as a Florida version of an Italian cocktail.

The Campari Maitre d’ follows the traditional Negroni formula of 1-1-1 (1 ounce each of gin, Campari and sweet red vermouth) and varies with the addition of  a splash or orange juice and cranberry juice, along with a dash of Sprite or Prosecco.  You can serve this on the rocks or up, just remember that water is always the secret ingredient in cocktails so if you are serving up, give the mixture a little time in the shaker with the ice before serving. The end result is a refreshing summer cocktail.

  1. This looks like a wonderful cocktail. I have never tried Campari. I like new things so I will have to give this a try.

  2. This looks so pretty. Even though we do not drink alcohol, I should use some of these cocktails for inspiration for pretty non-alcoholic beverages. Make dinner time fun.
