Congratulations Kathy at Bake Away With Me – you are the winner of the Great Food! Cookbook!
Warning – A Watermelon Martini may be habit forming. Do try this at home. Always drink responsibly and do not drink and drive or dive.
Juicy, sweet watermelon – it’s not just for picnics anymore. Add a little vodka, lime juice and simple syrup to create a mid-summer afternoon cocktail suitable for consumption poolside or at your next backyard BBQ. It’s an indispensable summer indulgence.
This simple recipe is from the GREAT FOOD! cookbook published by Chefs Press(more about this book below). I tried it as a martini, shaken and not stirred, and as a frozen concoction. Both were refreshing and a good way to “tickle the tongue and cool the belly”. If you have kids or non-alcoholic drinkers, make a separate batch and substitute club soda for the vodka.
Chef’s Press has graciously donated three copies of the GREAT FOOD! cookbook for distribution to readers of my blog over the next few weeks. The book is a special compilation of the Great News! Cookware & Cooking School’s best menus and recipes from the past 20 years. Because it’s organized by season, the GREAT FOOD! cookbook provides a culinary road map for the entire year — offering delicious ways to reap nature’s bounty and to cook with what’s fresh and available. Once you start cooking with the GREAT FOOD! cookbook, you’ll want it in your kitchen all year long! And visit the Great News! Cookware & Cooking School’s website [www.great-news.com] for an exciting culinary experience. They have anything and everything for the home chef and professional chef wannabe. The school is located in sunny San Diego, so consider a culinary-cation to attend classes or merely browse around their store. This is the first of three drawings for the GREAT FOOD! cookbook.

Ooh, I want this book so bad! My favorite summertime drink is a desert rat’s twist on a Southern sweet tea, inspired by one of the region’s most renowned golfer Arnold Palmer. It’s sweet tea vodka mixed with lemonade and is perfect for sipping in the pool!
Mmmm….think that might make it to my pool this weekend!

Christy, This is a great summer drink. Looks so delicious and refreshing! Will be giving it a try for sure!
Hi Kathy – I hope you like it. It is so light and refreshing, it would be easy to consume one too many and not realize it at first!

What a stunning color! Your cocktail is just plain gorgeous. I tend to go for a Margarita in the summer 🙂
We love margaritas! They are perfect for summer weather!
Hi Christy!
I love the sounds of this! I have made watermelon daiquiris and they are delicious. I like them because I can collect left over watermelon in the freezer and then whip up a batch of frozen deliciousness! Your new blog design is great, very professional and diva-ish!
Thanks for the comments Guyla! I think Evy did a terrific job with the redesign and really captured the essence of Palm Springs. Watermelon daiquiris sound right up Sous Chef’s alley – he has taked to frozen blended cocktails this summer (our average temp in summer is about 110 every day with a low of 85).

Uh oh, all chances of gaining momentum on “make up” recipes is going down the tubes now with this lovely watermelon distraction. But as Nana says when I take a nap—- “you must have needed it” 🙂 I can’t wait to check out their website. And I did think it was related to Adriana at first when I saw Great and Food put together. Too funny !!
I’m still struggling with make up recipes – particularly posting about them. Hope you were able to enjoy this cocktail!
I made the watermelon martinis on Saturday night. Delicious and popular! Thanks for a great recipe. Also, I’m now following you on Twitter.
