You don’t often find French recipes that are “Paint-by-the-Number,” but this week’s Tomato Salad with Parsley and Shallots from A Year in a French Kitchen by Mimi Thorisson is just such a recipe. Merely use the recipe’s photo as your guide to assembling the ingredients as intended by the author. The end result is a beautiful salad full of fresh summer flavors that can be enjoyed on its own as a first course or as a side to just about any entrée you can imagine, or even as a transnational dish at an All American Barbeque. No cooking involved; just a little slicing and dicing. So while you may say “To-may-toe” and I “to-maw-toe,” we will all agree that this is one stunningly delicious and alluring salad.
See what the rest of the Weekend in a French Kitchen group has to say about this dish. If you like our concept and enthusiasm for French cooking, why don’t you join our group?
Aurevoir and Bon Appetit until next week!
Love the combination of red and yellow tomatoes, very pretty!
Perfect accompaniment for a BBQ.
I didn’t know what you meant, at first, by paint-by-number. You’re correct.
So beautiful. And yes, it’s a salad that can be made by just looking at a photo and saying, “I can do that!”
